What is a sinus venosus defect?

In this video, you will learn what a venous sinus defect looks like on transesophageal echocardiography (TEE). This rather rare congenital atrial septum defect occurs at the entrance of either the inferior (IVC) or superior vena cava (SVC) into the right atrium. In most cases, the defect is located at the entrance of the SVC. Due to its location, it can be challenging to evaluate using transthoracic echocardiography (TTE). Therefore, transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) is the modality of choice for the assessment and diagnosis of this condition.
